CLASSIFICATION:   Non-Exempt

DEFINITION AND PURPOSE:

Provide case management and support for all clients referred from local Department of Social Services.  Support client in obtaining the needed service from cadre of training, community, and employment services available to identify, manage and overcome barriers to employment and to assist client in developing and achieving a plan of action including short-term, intermediate and long-range goals for increased wages and sustained employment.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Supervised by: SVREC Special Needs Coordinator and Assistant Director

Supervises:  SVREC clients placed in work experience placements

Coordinates with:  Other staff, Southwest Virginia Regional Employment Coalition partners, local non-profit organizations who serve as placement sites

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides counseling and support for clients.
  • Responsible for establishing, supervising and tracking training and work experience for the clients.
  • Provides additional employment barrier assessments for clients placed in work experience or public service programs.
  • Responsible for client evaluations, keeping all records, progress notes and other correspondence involved in worksite placement.
  • Acts as liaison between worksite, client and DSS employment specialist.
  • Attends monthly SVREC meeting and in-house team and staff meetings.
  • Monitors the use of resources and impact on clients and their families as appropriate.
  • Conducts worksite visits to monitor clients.
  • Assists program manager with submitting timely and accurate reports.
  • Conducts instruction of job readiness and retention training when requested.
  • Collaborates and communicates with other community partners to provide effective services.  (Example: Refugee and Immigration Services, TLC, etc.)
  • Assists with employment specialist duties on a department level: job readiness teaching, job connection, resume building, etc.
  • Serves on committees and special task groups as assigned by manager or assistant director.
  • Assists with agency special events and fundraising.
  • Creates an environment that fosters a spirit of teamwork with other staff and personnel at This Valley Works.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and requested.

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Thorough knowledge of best practices in the field.
  • Ability to exhibit appropriate professional interactions with staff, partners, and the community.
  • Knowledge of community resources.

 

TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Social Work, Sociology or closely related field preferred.
  • Experience in human services with a working knowledge of employment training programs.
  • Experience in employer relations.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • COVID Vaccination
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Virginia Operator’s license.
  • Must pass drug screening.  Some positions require positive complete background screening including: criminal, sex offender and child protective services.
  • Physical activity of this position – climbing; ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, use of fingers for – picking, pinching, typing; grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Physical requirements of this position – sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Visual acuity requirements – close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Conditions subject to in this position – worker not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
