Provide case management and support for all clients referred from local Department of Social Services.  Support client in obtaining the needed service from cadre of training, community, and employment services available to identify, manage and overcome barriers to employment and to assist client in developing and achieving a plan of action including short-term, intermediate and long-range goals for increased wages and sustained employment.



Supervised by:  Operations Manager and Director

Supervises: SVREC clients placed in work experience placements

Coordinates with:  Other staff, Southwest Virginia Regional Employment Coalition partners and worksite supervisors



  • Provides counseling and support for clients.
  • Responsible for establishing, supervising and tracking training and work experience for the clients.
  • Conducts orientations for VIEW-referred clients.
  • Provides additional employment barrier assessments for clients placed in work experience or public service programs.
  • Responsible for client evaluations, keeping all records, progress notes and other correspondence involved in worksite placement.
  • Acts as liaison between worksite, client and DSS employment specialist.
  • Assists clients with job search and job placement.
  • Attends monthly SVREC meeting and in-house team and staff meetings.
  • Monitors the use of resources and impact on clients and their families as appropriate.
  • Conducts worksite visits to monitor clients.
  • Assists management with submitting timely and accurate reports.
  • Conducts instruction of job readiness and retention training when requested.
  • Provides job placement services for clients.
  • Collaborates and communicates with other community partners to provide effective services.  (Example: Refugee and Immigration Services, TLC, etc.)
  • Oversees agency’s volunteer program. Coordinates application and recognition.
  • Serves on committees and special task groups as assigned by manager or director.
  • Assists with agency special events and fundraising.
  • Creates an environment that fosters a spirit of teamwork with other staff and personnel at This Valley Works.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and requested.
  • Masks must be worn while conducting TAP business or in a TAP facility



  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Thorough knowledge of best practices in the field.
  • Ability to exhibit appropriate professional interactions with staff, partners, and the community.
  • Knowledge of community resources.



  • Degree in Social Work, Sociology or closely related field preferred.
  • Experience in human services with a working knowledge of employment training programs.
  • Experience in employer relations.



  • Reliable transportation and a valid Virginia Operator’s license.
  • TAP is a mandatory COVID vaccine employer.
  • This position is available for remote work upon supervisor approval
  • Must pass drug screening.  Some positions require positive complete background screening including: criminal, sex offender and child protective services.
  • Physical activity of this position – climbing; ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, use of fingers for – picking, pinching and typing; grasping, feeling, hearing, repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Physical requirements of this position – sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Visual acuity requirements – close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Conditions subject to in this position – worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
