Responsible Rides

Program Overview

Every year low income families try to buy vehicles, but are unable to because of debt or credit challenges.

Families dealing with limited income need their dollars to be used wisely.

Because of this identified need in the community TAP, NRCA, FFCU, FFI and Enterprise have partnered to develop a car purchase program for low income families called Responsible Rides.

Cars are selected for reliability, mileage, and affordability from Enterprise fleet list. Affordable financing available through Freedom First Credit Union.

Guidelines for Acceptance in Responsible Rides Program

CARS SELECTED FOR RELIABILITY, MILEAGE, AND AFFORDABILITY FROM ENTERPRISE FLEET LIST.

To obtain financing with Freedom First, you must work, worship, live or be a student in Roanoke County, Botetourt County, Montgomery County, the City of Roanoke, the City of Radford, the City of Salem and the Town of Vinton for at least 6 months and not transient or homeless.

Must have a phone.

Be within 200% of poverty level on chart or less

Proof of Income and/or Award Letter.

Time on job of at least 3 months.

Must provide 2 months bank statements.

Drivers License.

References (at least two).

Must be able to pass drug screening test.

Agree to attend free financial (approx. 3 hr.) and maintenance (approx. 2 hr) classes.

Maintain payment of loan balance.

Must be insurable.

FINAL DECISION IS SUBJECT TO MEETING ALL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.
